As a childcare practitioner, Wendy feels that it is important that each child learns emotional skills such as being able to identify emotions and self-regulate at an early age. This can be challenging for some children simply because they do not have the words to express themselves. Wendy developed My Mood Stars not only to teach children about emotions but to support children in managing their feelings and emotions. Unlike other emotion resources, My Mood Stars are soft and tactile and are toys that can be spoken to just like a child may talk to their favourite soft toy. It is very telling listening to what children say to My Mood Stars. Often it is something that they have not had the opportunity or inclination to tell their parent or carer. My Mood Stars come with their own My Mood Stars board onto which they can pop on and off for extended and imaginary play. There is a free activity download on subscription to the website. Wendy has also written a workbook "My Mood Stars" which again encourages children to open up about how they are feeling (at that precise time of reading/being read to) Each day the child's response may be different, teasing out issues relevant to that moment. My Mood Stars is designed for ages 9 month to ninety years as they make wonderful comfort toys for our older generation due to their soft texture and size, evoking memories that may have been forgotten.
