About Western Gas
About the Equus Gas Project The Equus Gas Project lies ~200 km northwest of Onslow in the northern Carnarvon Basin, North West Shelf, WA. It holds an independently certified 2C contingent resource of ~2 Tcf of gas and 42 million barrels of condensate (Gaffney Cline). Acquired from Hess Corporation in 2017, the project is wholly owned by Western Gas. Equus is being advanced as a modular, phased development that leverages existing offshore and onshore infrastructure to reduce capital costs and accelerate delivery. Strategically located, it is positioned to supply both WA’s domestic gas market and international LNG demand, with plans to backfill processing capacity at the North West Shelf and Pluto LNG plants. With WA facing potential domestic gas shortfalls later this decade, Equus is well-placed to provide new volumes while maintaining a low emissions profile. The development model includes domestic supply and LNG export, supported by infrastructure integration and decarbonisation initiatives. About Western Gas Western Gas is a private WA energy company founded in 2017 and headquartered in Perth. Its focus is to transform discovered but undeveloped gas resources into low-cost, low-emission energy solutions for local and global markets. The company is best known for acquiring Equus and progressing it as a key enabler of long-term domestic and LNG supply from the North West Shelf. Operating under a capital-light, partnership-driven model, Western Gas reduces risk and time to market by unlocking stranded gas using existing infrastructure. It has secured major commercial agreements—including a recent deal with Alcoa—and advanced regulatory and technical work toward a Final Investment Decision. Western Gas is playing a growing role in WA’s energy future, supporting economic resilience, industrial growth, and energy security.
