About Western North Carolina AIDS Project - WNCAP

The Western North Carolina AIDS Project's (WNCAP) mission is to provide equitable access to care and reduce harm from HIV, Hepatitis C, and drug use. WNCAP began in 1986 in response to the needs of the community in the early years of the AIDS epidemic. The founders had been helping provide food, comfort and care to people with AIDS for several years. Initially, WNCAP was focused on people in Buncombe County but was open to helping anyone in need across the region. In the 1990s, WNCAP began providing case management support, gradually adding prevention services for people at risk of HIV and harm reduction services for people who use drugs. Today, our services include HIV case management, prevention, education, HIV/HCV/STI testing, harm reduction and syringe services, a subsidized pharmacy program, and housing assistance across 18 western North Carolina counties.
