W. H. Joce and Sons Ltd provide plumbing, mechanical, electrical and roofing services in Plymouth and the surrounding areas at an economically competitive level while meeting our client's quality requirements and in a professional and safe manner. Our vans waiting to do your job ! Founded in 1911 by W Joce, great grandfather of Bill Joce who still runs the company today, the business started as a shop in Cecil Street Stonehouse, where gas fittings and sanitary ware were sold to the general public. In those days gas fittings meant gas lighting and people fitted their own gas lighting in their houses. Gas Safe would certainly not have approved ! Corgi – forerunner to Gas Safe - was only set up in 1972 and not surprisingly WH Joce & Sons was one of the first members in Plymouth joining shortly afterwards. Due to the inherent problems installing gas fittings the general public soon asked W Joce to come and install the items he was selling from the shop himself and that is how the installer side of the business developed. The business went on to survive 2 world wars, numerous recessions, strikes, insolvent builders and many more business hazards, to employ more than 50 tradesmen plus another 50 sub-contractors at its peak in the 1990s When turnover exceeded £2.5m. Today, the business is smaller but more closely managed as a result. W. H. Joce and Sons Ltd are mechanical and electrical contractors, also offering maintenance services and with a specialist roofing team, expert in copper, zinc , stainless steel ,lead roofing and cladding.
