On July 25, 2002, Whitfield’s Lawn & Garden Specialists was created. This started the beginning of a journey for a young entrepreneur. In 1997, Randy Whitfield was afforded the opportunity to go to school for Horticulture. In 1999 he received his first degree in Landscape Management and in 2000 he received his second degree in Greenhouse Specialist. His goal was to take advantage of his knowledge and, achieve financial independence for his family, by operating a family owned company. On July 25, 2002 he registered his company with the State of Iowa for six dollars. His first job was in the spring with all the tools needed to begin his journey. He started with a 1994 Dodge Caravan, a 20 inch Push Lawn Mower, a Few Hand Tools, a Cell Phone (Still using the same number today), Business Cards (that was printed off an old Gateway Desktop Computer), and his family which included his wife Catherine Whitfield, his son Randy Whitfield, II 18 years old, daughter RaeLynn Whitfield, 17 years old, son Christopher Whitfield, 13 years old, son Catum Whitfield, 11 years old, nephews Kanin Pierce, 11 years old and DeShawn Pierce, 10 years old. Today the business has been growing for 16 years. Randy Whitfield attained his goal that began his journey of providing for his family. Three out of four of his children now work in the business and provide for their own family which consist so far, of 13 grandchildren. Of the 13 grandchildren the eldest grandson who is a namesake, Randy Whitfield III is now the first of the third generation to work for the family business, along with his brother Roman Whitfield. This company has been blessed and as the person who had the vision to believe he could make this happen, he looks forward for the future success of the company which is now doing business as Whitfield’s Lawn and Garden Specialist, LLC. We became an LLC in 2017. Our services include, landscape installation, lawn maintenance, snow removal and ice management.
