There are around 48,700 kids in foster care in Australia, but only 2.8% will go on to attend university. As adults, many spiral into homelessness, drug and alcohol addiction, criminality, and are ultimately chained to a lifetime of welfare dependency. Our goal is simple: we want to increase the number of kids leaving care undertaking tertiary study. Universities transform lives. They open doors and networks, and create significantly enhanced job opportunities. We want more kids in care to experience this for themselves. Here's how we are helping to smooth their path: - We provide a central national portal for information about all of the support available to kids in care who want to undertake higher education. - We connect kids in care considering uni to each other and to care leavers who have already been there. - We work with governments and universities to make sure kids leaving care get the support they need to enable them to complete their studies.
