Very simply, WickedHyper enables container ports to do more with less. More volume. Less waterfront space. More business. Less pollution. More efficiency. Less bottle-necking. Starting with a LOLO (load/offload only) marine facility requires no more than one-third of the waterfront space needed for conventional container ports. All traditional container operations/storage are conducted at an off-dock container terminal (ODCT), which is situated nearby on less-expensive and more accessible land. The LOLO port and ODCT are connected by HyperRail, a dual-track "drailage" (rail drayage) system that transports the containers between the two facilities using short trainsets powered by environmentally friendly alternative fuels. Providing super-fast handling of containers at each end of the HyperRail is the WickedHyper high-speed trans-loader (HSTL). At a max speed of ten 40-foot containers per minute, a single WickedHyper HSTL can support up to 15 ship-to-shore cranes, and handle an annual total of more than 7 million TEUs (20-foot equivalent units, the standard measurement for container shipment). The smaller waterfront footprint enables new ports to be built on a much wider selection of sites, often away from crowded urban centers. The ODCT allows truck access from multiple directions without the limitations incurred on the waterfront, and the subsequent traffic bottlenecks. Both the WickedHyper and HyperRail components can be partially or fully automated to complement the available workforce.
