About WIDC

Advancing talent in Canada's screen industry since 1997. Primarily focused on mid-career women and non-binary directors and writer-directors of screen fiction, CWWA's Women In the Director's Chair (WIDC) program offers seriously road-tested professional development, plus cash and in kind prizes and awards. Each year, through WIDC, specially designed modular programs are delivered across Canada, twenty four mid-career women and non-binary directors / writer-directors are selected to develop their craft and their screen fiction projects (e.g. shorts, features, TV, digital series) by working with seasoned mentors, subject matter experts, professional (ACTRA) actors and (DGC/IATSE) crews. WIDC receives major funding from Telefilm Canada, ACTRA National, Actra Fraternal Benefit Society, Independent Production Fund, and collaborates with the Whistler Film Festival, St John's International Women's Film Festival, Reelworld Film Festival and Screen Institute, Female Eye Film Festival (Toronto), and WITF's Vancouver International Women in Film Festival. WIDC also appreciates the community partnership of TIFF, VIFF, Crazy 8's, and the Director's Guild of Canada.
