The William Averette Anderson Fund for Hazard and Disaster Mitigation, Education, and Research–more commonly known as the Bill Anderson Fund, or BAF–is the nation’s premier nonprofit organization dedicated to diversifying the professional fields related to hazards and disasters. We provide robust professional development training, mentorship, and peer support to Black, Latinx, and Indigenous PhD students throughout the United States to ensure a successful graduate school experience. Our Alumni Network represents a dynamic community of early- and mid-career professionals who are leading a paradigm shift that centers equity and justice in disaster mitigation by conducting groundbreaking research and informing policy at the state, federal, and local levels. We are actively cultivating the diverse next generation of researchers, responders, and policymakers who will help historically marginalized communities strengthen their resilience to the continually-evolving landscape of environmental risk.
