About Wiltshire Music Centre
Wiltshire Music Centre is a purpose-built, 300-seat concert hall hosting more than 90 concerts a year featuring world-class classical, folk, jazz and world music artists. Renowned for "the finest acoustic outside London" (Sean Rafferty, BBC Radio 3) the Centre attracts internationally-renowned musicians including the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, Academy of St Martin in the Fields, Radu Lupu, violinist Nicola Benedetti and famed guitarist John Williams; jazz legends Courtney Pine, Clare Teal, Stacey Kent and Jacqui Dankworth; stars of the folk music scene such as Kathryn Tickell, Lau, Flook and Julie Fowlis; and world music's greatest ambassadors, from Black Umfolosi to El Tanbura. The Centre also programmes a series of family music shows and storytelling performances - "That was the best day of my whole life!" (Finn, aged 6) - given by award-winning musicians and performers with a love of both entertaining and teaching: from Roald Dahl's 'Little Red Riding Hood' and Giles Andreae's 'Sir Scallywag and the Golden Underpants' to Satoshi Kitamura's 'Igor, the Bird Who Couldn't Sing'. In addition to regular activities held at the Centre, including Jazz Factory workshops, choral singing sessions and music therapy groups, the Centre is the home to a variety of countywide orchestras and ensembles and runs an exemplary education and community programme across Wiltshire and beyond.
