About Wirral Women and Childrens Aid
Since 1981, Wirral Women and Children's Aid has provided a place of safety for women and children fleeing domestic abuse. We provide information, support and guidance to resident and non-resident families. We aim to Empower women to enable them to begin a new life with their children in a non-violent environment. We provide help in finding a safe new home and can offer support with: Budgeting and benefits support, accessing health services, finding nurseries and schools, accessing local community and cultural services, gaining legal advice, including accompanying women to appointments and court, safety planning, training, education and employment support. In our refuge, residents have the use of their own bedroom with en-suite bathroom, plus the use of shared communal facilities including: 2 Resident’s Lounges, Laundry Room, 2 Kitchens, Playroom, Secure Garden, Children’s Play Area and Car Park. We deliver training around the signs and symptoms of domestic abuse, effects on children and risk assessing. We run a weekly Youth Club, providing a variety of programmes and activities especially designed for children ages between 8 and 18 who have experienced domestic abuse or trauma at NEO Community Centre. We deliver a seven week programme, Gateway, that covers women's beleifs and values, barriers to leaving, effects on children, warning signs and staying safe. Our Charity Shop in Moreton has been able to help sustain our service since 2015, giving opportunities to families to move forward from violence and abuse. All monies raised by the shop go directly to our women and children. Our familes benefit greatly from donations, and we invite them to take as much as they need from the shop in terms of goods and clothing, which helps them transition to a better life.
