About Wishes and Angels
WAA was started to help people who were struggling with every day items as well as necessities. We aim to help people who are just on the brink of being thrown into poverty. People may 'wish' for anything within reason. A food voucher, a shop voucher for clothing. A bill to be paid, a haircut, an electrician's fee, their vet bills or pet's food. Wheelchairs, toys, mousetraps (yes we did have one for that), etc. Things that many take for granted. Things that give people a feeling of being normal. The fact people have gifted to them at all gives them huge encouragement and hope. It strikes me that people will share much on social media, from what they had for tea to the death of a loved one. They will not however tell you they cannot afford to feed their family tonight. They will not tell you they cannot go to events because they cannot afford the bus fare. The list goes on. They will tell you they are running for charity but they will not tell you they themselves need charity. Foodbanks are marvellous but many won't go as it requires casting all dignity aside. One bill for a pet, one missed rent payment, one lost job or one dress bought for their little girl or school uniform for their little lad, these are the things that throw people down poverty lane. I have a huge vision for WAA but I am happy to start at the beginning. Our website as is, is very basic. We build it with a small amount of money from the sale of household fittings, clothing and boot sales. As it stands, it is not working in the way it should. We are about to, in October 2014, start a fundraising campaign of our own to get the £20 000 required for the site rebuild. This will enable far greater functionality for our users who are often anonymous and the ability to gain help with debt and to sell items they themselves make on their own page on the site. Think anonymous Facebook with wishes. Thank you for reading.
