About WLOY Loyola Radio
MISSION: WLOY Loyola Radio is the student run radio station operating at Loyola University Maryland. WLOY provides entertainment through various radio programming and campus/community events, offers a diverse creative and educational environment for individuals to have hands-on experience in broadcast radio, and is committed to integrating itself into the greater Baltimore community through programming, events and outreach. Through all these endeavors, WLOY lives out the Jesuit ideal of men and women with and for others. PROGRAMMING: WLOY follows a general rock music format, playing contemporary, alternative, and classic rock. Music selection trends from lighter in the morning towards heavier in the evening and overnight. On-air staff, comprised almost exclusively of students, are given latitude to select songs within this format. The station is in operation 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. HELPING OTHERS: WLOY Loyola Radio strives to use its influence to reach out and give back to the community in and out of the station. In the studio, we’ve created the What Happens Next? radio program in which elementary school students get to go a step beyond their classroom resources, improving their creative writing skills while getting an inside look at radio broadcasting. WLOY reaches out to the Baltimore community, hosting summer radio boot camps for Middle Grades Partnership students, the CHOICE Program for high schoolers and more. WLOY additionally places programs directly in public schools for students through the Radio Edu program. WLOY regularly hosts guests such as Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, Webelos and more. Our staff also visit area schools to talk about radio, audio and paths to college.
