About Women In Design Syracuse

A community for empowering women, encouraging creativity, and advocating for equality in every field at Syracuse University. As a collective of creatives pursuing careers as artists, designers, architects & more, we thrive together by elevating one another. WID is the first undergraduate one of its kind on the East Coast. Founded in Winter/Spring 2019, with a mission to bring women together; to encourage collaboration, empowerment, and unity across disciplines, into our professional lives and beyond. To inspire openness and collaboration through content-rich events that serve as platforms for inspiring honest conversation & bringing about meaningful change in our industries—founded on the belief that balance and inclusion are essential ingredients for cultivating successful creative environments. We aim to foster awareness and support creatives, whether they are starting university or entering their chosen industry; our cohort includes passionate individuals working together to promote diversity and address the challenges facing women in design. As we bridge the academia-industry gap, we are dedicated to equipping women with the tangible skills needed to navigate design industries & throughout life. "With the support of eleven inspiring women and four advisors, I founded Women In Design out of a need for change. After attending Kat Riser's Women & Design Summit, it was apparent that Syracuse, like many colleges & universities, needed a community curated around supporting and empowering female creatives. To build creative confidence in kick-ass female designers. At first, I questioned why we define ourselves as female designers rather than designers.
