Women in Leisure Services – Gamma Chapter is an empowering, dynamic, and progressive organization which strives to provide resources for personal, academic, and professional growth through affordable and innovative trainings with enriching networking opportunities to our members and students pursuing community recreation and human service careers. Women in Leisure Services is a national organization for professional women involved in the delivery of leisure and community services in private, commercial and municipal settings. A network of chapters serves administrators, supervisors, educators, therapists and armed forces professionals in defined geographic areas throughout the country. The organization was founded in 1935 as Chi Kappa Rho by Helen I. Pontius, a recreation professional in Los Angeles, California. The original name was derived from three Greek letters XKP symbolizing; CHARACTER, KNOWLEDGE and RECREATION. Gamma Chapter includes Orange, San Bernardino, and Riverside Counties, and the eastern portion of Los Angeles County in Southern California. Gamma Chapter Objectives are: - To provide a forum for women to exchange ideas in order to keep updated on industry trends. - To develop training programs for professional and personal development. - To offer recognition and advancement for women in the leisure and community services profession. - To foster friendships, self-enrichment and a member network for professional assistance
