About Women On Maintaining Education And Nutrition (W.O.M.E.N.)
Women On Maintaining Education and Nutrition (W.O.M.E.N.) was founded in 1994 with the mission to bridge service gaps to reduce health disparities. In over 22 years of operation, W.O.M.E.N.’s open door policy has allowed the organization to reach women and families at their point of need. Our targeted interventions and outreaches directly impact the hard-to-reach and underserved populations of poor women who have little or no resources, sex industry workers, current/former substance abusers, domestic violence victims, those suffering from PTSD and trauma, and the homeless. Not only does W.O.M.E.N.’s interventions support high risk populations, W.O.M.E.N.’s strategic interventions impacts women who attend church; employed educated women; young, middle age and older women; single parent households; women having or have had unprotected sex with men released from prison/jail and women in heterosexual relationships. W.O.M.E.N. has found that these groups in fact have the highest risk of infection nevertheless believe themselves exempt from HIV or STDs. Our services include but are not limited to housing, food distribution; H.I.V. and Hepatitis C counseling and testing, support group, direct care services including case management, transportation, education seminars, workshops, community forums, community health fairs, peer to peer education sessions, patient navigation including treatment linkages to treatment and care as well as medication adherence, patient and prevention education. Outreach activities also include print media, books, radio and television.
