About Women on Wall Street

Women on Wall Street (WOW) was founded in the summer of 2023 by Abigail Copeland and Chloe Cullen at UC Berkeley, driven by a shared frustration over the lack of inclusive spaces and mentorship for women in finance. What began as a grassroots effort quickly grew into Berkeley’s largest finance-focused student organization, with over 220 members. WOW became a transformative force, helping ambitious women navigate competitive recruiting, build confidence, and secure top finance roles. But the challenges WOW addressed at Berkeley weren’t unique. Across universities worldwide, thousands of talented women quietly step away from finance before they begin — often due to early negative experiences in student finance groups that shape their perception of the industry. The message is subtle but powerful: you don’t belong here. WOW was created to challenge that message. Our mission is to build an inclusive global network of campus chapters where undergraduate women can explore finance in a supportive, empowering environment. By providing mentorship, community, and career preparation, WOW aims to rewrite the story for the next generation of women in finance — turning discouragement into determination and exclusion into belonging.
