About Women’s Community Boutique

Women’s Community Boutique CIC is a social enterprise based in Sunderland, North East England. We are a platform for women from all cultures and backgrounds, using sustainable fashion as a catalyst to promote body positivity, confidence, to provide opportunities, inclusion and to improve health and wellbeing. We run a variety of activities for women, delivered through collaboration with other organisations, including the following: Dress Up Socials, Photoshoots, Fashion Shows, Water Confidence, Gardening, Cooking, Language Exchange, and Creative Fashion Activities. What we do is unique. Using sustainable fashion, something that appeals to everybody, goes beyond the prescriptive approaches to mental wellbeing, body positivity, integration and inclusion, and sustainable living. Using clothing in a positive way to promote body confidence in women and empowering them through knowledge and integrating and connecting them to their community, will in turn impact positively on their future prospects, ability to contribute to society, employability, skills and opportunities. Coming to the Boutique just to experiment with fashion then provides the opportunity for many women to socialise, meet people which otherwise they wouldn’t and do things which otherwise they wouldn’t. This then lends itself to address other issues that may impact on their health and wellbeing, such as lack of body confidence, language and communication barriers, isolation, lack of integration into their local community and their environment. We work with a diverse group of women. Each individual has a different need, these may include, body confidence, cultural, language, mental health and socioeconomic status. We promote an inclusive environment and aim for an atmosphere of acceptance, respect and cultural appreciation.
