About Womxn In Bioscience Society KCL (WiBScie)

Founded in 2022, the Womxn in Bioscience society is a student group at King's College London that aims to take an intersectional approach to the challenges faced by women identifying students studying in the Bioscience department at KCL or those who are interested in bio-related disciplines. We want to form a supportive community that allows students at all stages of education to guide and share experiences in order to best prepare ourselves for our futures. Developing a safe space for like minded womxn-identifying students is important to us, in order to create a network where support, guidance and a sense of community is nurtured. Although we are focused on empowering womxn identifying voices, our society and events are open to anyone regardless of gender identity or background who wants to join our community, or grow their interest in bio-related fields Considering inequalities within STEM and bio-related disciplines, we believe that creating a community for marginalised or under-represented groups in STEM to share their worries and understand that they are not alone is crucial to our success in a male dominated industry. We are dedicated to giving our members the opportunity to expand and build on their knowledge in areas that can’t be achieved in the classroom. Empowering these voices creates opportunities to redefine STEM industries and enact change. Key to this is exposing female role models in STEM and encouraging networking opportunities for women to establish a peer support system.
