About Working Dogs For Vets
Working Dogs For Vets Mission is to provide service dogs and training to disabled heroes in need, empowering them as they return to civilian life with newfound independence; reducing suicide and overcrowding in animal shelters. About 2.7 million dogs are put down in U.S. shelters each year. That's about one every 11 seconds. Veterans now commit suicide at the rate of 1 every 59 minutes. Veterans who are in need of a service dog, over 1.5 million. This program is designed to eliminate the cost & waiting list for our veterans in need of a service dog and also greatly help shelter overpopulation problems. We provide disabled veterans with service dogs and service dog training. Program dogs are from local shelters, fully vetted, spayed & neutered & pass an evaluation. With In house program, we train program dogs in-house for veterans who are unable to participate in the training themselves. Veterans who are able to help train their own service dog through the No Veteran Left Behind Program are teamed up with a volunteer through our network of service dog trainers throughout the U.S. Volunteers helping with dog selection, evaluations, and training, from start to finish. We provide veterans with service dog training. Some tasks include medication alert, blocking someone from approaching too fast, and removing veterans from stressful situations. In return we ask after their dog has completed the program, they help another team. This results in local groups meeting at a local park helping each other in training their service dogs. That's where the real medicine is, veterans helping veterans. Therefore No Veteran is left behind. Thank you for your support!
