About Worldmax, 3.5 GHz license holder
Worldmax was funded by INTEL Capital and Greenfield Capital Partners and became the first Mobile WiMAX operator in Europe. The Amsterdam WiMAX network and services launched successfully in February 2009 resulting from a close cooperation with INTEL and Alcatel – Lucent. Company was able to deliver stable high bandwidth wireless services, beating any wireless network alternative in the market on price/ performance & service basis. For reasons of national security, the Dutch Government started a procedure to change the spectrum license conditions resulting in a substantial reduction of the viability of the WiMAX business case. A settlement deal was negotiated with the Dutch Government. After which INTEL Capital and Greenfield Capital Partners decided to exit the company.
