About Write on Sports
Write on Sports (WoS) is a non-profit literacy program created to inspire students from under-resourced communities to improve their writing skills, critical thinking, and self-confidence through topics they are passionate about: sports and the arts. We define sports broadly to include sports students play and/or watch, as well as the intersection of sports with topics like fashion, music, and societal issues. Through Write on Arts, a new initiative, we encourage students to explore the visual and performing arts to develop these skills. In both Write on Sports and Write on Arts, we approach each of our programs by individualizing our instruction based on student’s interests and abilities, allowing each student to benefit from the program and grow as a writer and learner. The New Jersey-based 501(c)(3) organization celebrates its 19th Anniversary in 2024 and has served more than 2,300 kids with summer camps, workshops and after-school programs throughout the Garden State, including Bergen, Camden, Essex, Hudson, Monmouth, Ocean, Passaic and Union counties and through chapter programs in California, Colorado, Indiana and Rhode Island.
