At IXAU, we design investment models that protect the nature underpinning half of the world’s GDP. We turn ecosystems into investable assets — enabling conservationists to raise capital and investors to add biodiversity to their balance sheets, driving both protection and value creation. |XAU is an Indigenous Khoi San word that means ‘to go on a magical expedition’. It also carries within it XAU — the symbol used to trade gold in financial markets. IXAU points to nature’s value as something as precious as gold — while reminding us that it has far more value as wild ecosystems to venture into, rather than extracted fragments to hold in our hands. Although we are passionate, our work is driven not by virtue, but by pragmatism — because protecting biodiversity is essential to protecting the long-term value of every other asset. Biodiversity loss and ecosystem collapse is the second biggest threat to the global economy in the next decade, and yet our economic models currently only value nature when extracted or destroyed. Seeds, plants, trees, cows, chickens, pigs - endless species already feature as assets on balance sheets, separate from the land they stand on. The frameworks already exist. It only takes imagination and courage to value endangered species and the overall ecology life depends on, in time to protect endangered species from extinction.
