About Yale Student Film Festival

The Yale Student Film Festival (YSFF) is a platform that uplifts unique student voices from around the world. We seek to amplify stories that only students can tell, and build global and local communities of young filmmakers who can support each other as they enter the entertainment industry. The Yale Student Film Festival is run entirely by Yale University undergraduates, and consists of high school and college short films from around the world. Since YSFF’s founding in 2015, more than 9000 student films (both college and high school) have been submitted to us from over 50 countries. This international reach reflects YSFF’s commitment to promote diverse voices and perspectives in student filmmaking. In addition to our global reach, we also work to connect with local Connecticut and New England high schools and universities to build a student filmmaker network in the region. In addition, we dedicate one screening block each year for the best of Yale filmmakers to show their work to attending alumni and peers. While student film screenings are the centerpiece of our festival, we also bring guest speakers from the entertainment industry to Yale so that our students can learn from professionals, and hold workshops for student filmmakers to develop their craft. The 2025 festival will run from Thursday April 3rd through Sunday, April 6th. The festival lineup is selected by YSFF’s Programming Team, made up of 20 Yale undergraduates, and consists of the 40-50 short film submissions of the highest caliber that best reflect YSFF’s mission. These films then compete in various award categories, with winners chosen by Yale Film & Media Studies professors. The top films of the festival will be watched by a panel of industry experts to select the single Best of YSFF 2025 film.
