About Yale Undergraduate Aerospace Association (YUAA)
YUAA members work in teams to build and fly rockets, planes, quadcopters, and unmanned aerial vehicles. From first idea to finished aircraft, YUAA projects are entirely student-run. Since its founding in 2010, YUAA has hosted events to promote aerospace engineering and encouraged collaboration and innovation. Our Mission: YUAA promotes aerospace engineering through teamwork, creativity, and outreach, cultivating leaders who tackle challenges with discipline and ingenuity. Our History: - 2010: YUAA began with high-altitude balloon projects to photograph the Earth and conduct atmospheric experiments. The second balloon, Horizon, is featured on our website. - 2013: YUAA won 1st place in the Astro-Egg Lander event at the Battle of the Rockets competition and developed the Command Center, an electronic control module for aircraft. - 2014: YUAA's rocket team competed in the Intercollegiate Rocket Engineering Competition (IREC) in Utah, winning 2nd place in the payload category with Chronos, which measured time dilation in a gravitational field. - 2014-2015: YUAA expanded with new members, launched the Radio Telescope project, and began multi-stage rocketry. - 2015: The CubeSat project was inaugurated, aiming to launch a satellite into low Earth orbit. YUAA was the only collegiate team recognized at the White House Astronomy Night. - 2016: YUAA's rocket Ziggy Stardust placed 2nd in the IREC payload category. - 2023: YUAA launched the Space Policy Research Collaborative, a non-engineering project where students from various disciplines conduct and present research globally. - 2024: Project Rover was launched to develop robotics and vehicle technologies for planetary missions.
