Yamatji Mining & Civil (YMC) is a multi functional majority Aboriginal owned and controlled service company based in Geraldton in the Mid West of Western Australia. The company takes it name “Yamatji” from the Aboriginal word that broadly describes the Aboriginal people and land of the Mid West, Murchison and Gascoyne regions. YMC provides specialised services to the mining, resource and construction sectors including earthmoving, road building and maintenance, site building, civil engineering, housing, security as well as training and development, employment and recruitment services. The company provides Indigenous people access to training opportunities to enable them to gain the skills and experience necessary to develop their abilities, progress within Yamatji Mining and Civil and achieve broader benefits in their lives. YMC aims to achieve a target of 90% Indigenous employment in its workforce with an absolute minimum of 50%. It also seeks to engage Indigenous people in the communities located around the Midwest, giving them first options for employment and contract services. YMC works with other businesses in the Midwest region to offer indigenous employment and recruitment services. As a contractor of choice in the promotion of Indigenous employment in the Midwest, YMC achieves its goals through strong client relationships. Management is retained by indigenous people thus creating wealth creation in local Indigenous communities through its shareholders.
