About You Grow Girl! (YGG)

You GROW Girl! (YGG) is a mentorship program dedicated to coaching middle school girls of all backgrounds to help them become the best, brightest and most confident version of themselves. Research has shown that mentorship for middle school girls can have significant positive effects, including increasing self-esteem, improving academic performance, raising confidence in career aspirations, and providing an overall sense of well-being, especially during this developmental stage. Studies also indicate that a mentor can help girls navigate social pressures, foster leadership skills, and feel more empowered to pursue their goals. The goal of YGG is to provide a safe space to listen, guide, support and facilitate growth. Girls will learn how to be their most authentic selves, foster strong relationships, resolve peer conflict, build character strengths, set academic and personal goals, and know their worth! Led by Hagir Hasbrouck (affectionately known as Mrs. H), YGG offers an informal, high-energy, and relatable coaching environment to allow the girls to be open and receptive to mentorship and guidance. Our approach is focused on the four C’s: Conversation, Connection, Community, and Confidence. • Conversation: creating a safe, judgement free space where girls feel comfortable discussing relevant issues with a mentor they can relate to and providing an environment of mutual respect and trust. • Connection: connecting with the mentor and fostering peer-to-peer connections in a setting where they can share perspectives on issues that are not routinely a part of the academic curriculum. • Community: providing a network and support system for the girls to allow for open communication and a sense of solidarity as students and young ladies. • Confidence: we want to see them thrive in all aspects of their life. Helping them gain the tools to boost their self-confidence is the first step.
