About Youth Medical Mentorship
We develop talent from cradle to career for the future healthcare workforce. We do this through evidence-based recruiting and target students that have traditionally been hard to reach from BIPOC populations that are underrepresented in medicine. We take a neighborhood approach to our programming and ask the question, what is the return on investment for a student to become a health professional from and for this specific community? We have 4 major programs we use to allow the community to generate its own catalysts for change through medicine as a career. Triage, Exposure, Expand, and Empower. Triage refers to our Elementary and After School models that allow students to be exposed to the 140 different medical professional and 80 allied health professions through our innovative programs. Exposure refers to our Medical Summits and relationships with hospital networks to form high school internships and student-led clubs to continue to mold the positive interactions students can have with a future version of themselves as healthcare professionals while building a strong support network for resiliency. This model is flexible to meet the community where it is in regards to rural, tribal, or any urban school setting. Expand is our University model dedicated to helping expand MAPS Chapters across the states, so students leave one powerful medical ecosystem and enter another along their pathway to professionalism. We also build their leadership potential here with Fellowship and Internship opportunities with YMM and by going to club meetings to help them grow their reach and allocation of study resources on college campuses. Finally, Empower is our professional support network that regularly brings medical professionals together and leaders from the community to break bread together and find sanctuary and solitude in each other's company. This serves as a professional network as well as where we find and develop mentors to feed into our other programs mentioned above.
