About Zero Carbon Dorset

Zero Carbon Dorset is a research and collaboration project that aims to identify the current level of emissions across the county of Dorset, develop a vision of what zero carbon county could look like (balancing environmental, ecological and social justice), set out the changes required to achieve this scenario by 2030 and track progress towards this goal. Our Dorset 2030 report documents what must be achieved while acknowledging that the two local councils cannot make these changes themselves, that the sum of actions by individuals alone will be insufficient (within the required timescales) and that there will be significant reliance on wider Government policies (which will need to be campaigned for). It does, however, call for the community to be placed at the heart of decision making and for action to be supported from the ground up. It cannot, and does not seek to, provide all the answers but, by setting out a clear framework, seeks to engage the wider community to ensure there is a comprehensive understanding of the scale of the problem as well as the options and opportunities to address each issue. It does not exist in isolation of the many other activities already planned or underway across the area to address the climate crisis, rather, the intention is to fully understand each of these, encourage more and assess the contribution of all in getting us to zero emissions.
