🌎 Zero Waste McMinnville: Leading the Way for a Sustainable Future 🌱 For over a decade, Zero Waste McMinnville (ZWM) has been at the forefront of making McMinnville and Oregon more sustainable through practical zero-waste policies, civic engagement, and community action. Born from a 26-year battle against the expansion of the Riverbend Landfill, ZWM successfully advocated for its closure, protecting local farms, rivers, and watersheds. Over the years, our passionate volunteers have contributed more than 30,000 hours toward this mission. Our programs, like The Plastic Project, have played a pivotal role in diverting thousands of pounds of waste from landfills, while also generating over $7,000 for local businesses. ZWM has also been a key force behind impactful legislation, including McMinnville's first-in-the-state plastic bag ban and the establishment of curbside glass recycling. We’ve hosted beloved community events like COMPOSTPOOLZA and EARTHNIGHT, and supported initiatives such as Sustainable Rituals, the Mac Tool Library, and Edible Landscapes of Yamhill County. Our mission is simple yet powerful: lead by example to create a future free from waste, and advocate for sustainable practices that benefit both the environment and the community.
