About Alaya Preschool

Alaya is a preschool in Boulder, Colorado serving families of children ages two to five. We operate three classrooms (Tigers, Lions & Garudas) as well as summer camps. We are located in a cozy yet rambling old house near the center of town with three large outdoor play yards (one per classroom) as well as a community garden. Alaya was founded in 1978 by the Buddhist teacher Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche, and while we have no religious affiliation today, our school philosophy remains one of contemplative education. Many of our teachers are also trained in Montessori and/or Waldorf practices, as well as more traditional approaches to early childhood education. We operate as part of Naropa University, which was also founded by Trungpa Rinpoche. Alaya offers the highest quality early childhood education available, nurturing every student with individualized care and attention. We are guided by the following Principles of Practice: 1.
