About Alt HAN Co

Two thirds of GB households are now able to enjoy the benefits of smart electricity and gas metering. New services such as smart prepay and off-peak tariffs, and real-time information at our fingertips, all contribute to help control and reduce energy costs. Alt HAN Co was created to address technical challenges that may prevent a customer being able to receive the benefits of smart. Firstly, some smart meters in homes experience an issue where the components of the “Home Area Network” (HAN) are too far apart to communicate effectively. This issue affects over 700,000 households in Great Britain. Alt HAN Co has coordinated the development of range-extending solutions that integrate seamlessly into the smart meter rollout plans of energy suppliers. Mass rollout of devices with a greater number of energy suppliers began in 2024. Secondly, a lack of space or the configuration of equipment in shared meter rooms may prevent some customers being able to have a smart meter installed. Alt HAN Co works with all energy Suppliers to fix these issues and allow all customers to have a smart meter. Our collaborative model means Alt HAN Co is uniquely designed to enable all energy suppliers to work co-operatively to find and deliver a common solution for all and ensure no customer is left behind.
