About American Habitare & Counseling
American Habitare & Counseling, Inc. was founded in January 1998 in Newark, New Jersey. The desire to open an opioid treatment program was made to serve the inner-city population of Newark, as documentation showed that the drug epidemic had reached the Newark area, as in other urban areas, and treatment services were desperately needed. American Habitare and Counseling, Inc. (AHC) opened its doors on January 26, 1998 with only a few patients. Recently, we celebrated our 20th year of operation, and have had the opportunity to serve thousands of patients throughout the years. Today, we are an Opioid Treatment Program (OTP) that provides medication management, individual and group counseling, and Intensive Outpatient services. We also provide medical and co-occurring treatment to treat patients holistically.
