About Aurora Center for Healing

Aurora Center for Healing is a secure 60 bed psychiatric residential treatment facility providing developmentally aware, trauma responsive care for teen boys and girls ages 13-17. Our staff members are trained in our attuned relationship based model of treatment, providing boundaries, structure, support, and compassion to help our students feel safe, gain confidence, and begin to heal and re-engage with their families and communities in positive ways. Prior to enrolling with us, our students have experienced trauma in their lives, and have developed maladaptive behaviors and coping skills in response to their traumatic experiences. Many of our students have engaged in substance abuse, aggression against people and/or property, school refusal, theft, lying, codependent relationships, gaming and online addiction, struggle with friendships and familial relationships, running away, and suicidal ideation and attempts. Aurora is defined as “the dawn” or “the beginning” and that is what we offer every student we have the opportunity to work with, A New Beginning. We believe that every child is inherently good, and by the time they enroll with us hope might be lost. Restoring hope in themselves and hope in a bright future is our goal with every child. Our approach is to help each student feel safe and cared for, and stabilize their maladaptive behaviors by being attuned to their individual needs and providing consistent, predictable, reliable care and support. As we develop trust with the student we can start to work through what happened to them, and build their self-esteem and core values.
