Bortana Pty Ltd is an Australian company built on the safety and innovation legacy of its parent, Safescape. We are the APAC importer and distributor of the rugged, Australian-homologated Agrale diesel Marruá 4x4 and the proud OEM of the Bortana EV – Australia’s first and only heavy-duty battery-electric 4x4, designed specifically for the harshest of underground mining environments. The Bortana EV was born from a clear vision: create an emission-free mine vehicle that lasts up to 7–8 years underground, delivers lower operating costs, reduces heat and noise, and protects workers. With a sealed chassis, galvanised body, and a simplified, reliable battery system, the Bortana EV redefines durability and safety in high-demand roles such as nipper and charge-up. This is not a retrofit. Built on a customised bare chassis supplied by Agrale, the vehicle is engineered from the ground up in Bendigo, VIC. From mechanicals and software to telematics and harnesses, Bortana completes all design, assembly, and testing in-house – proudly as a registered Australian OEM. Since 2018, we’ve moved from prototype to pre-production vehicles, which have been and still are on trial at Australian mine sites. These long-term trials have been validating safety, performance, and cost reductions in real-world operations – proving safety, acceptance, utilisation and that the total cost of ownership, is lower than any comparable vehicle. With production scheduled for late 2026, the Bortana EV will be available in dual cab, single cab, and bus-body variants in both LHD and RHD.
