About Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE)
The Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) is charged with the overall responsibility of implementing the Nigerian policy on privatization and commercialization. As the Secretariat of the National Council of Privatization, the Bureau's functions under the Act establishing it include the implementation of the Nigerian policy on privatization, commercialization and preparing public enterprises approved for the programme. Some of the strategies utilized in the reform exercise of the Federal Government include competitive asset sale, concession, core investor sale, guided liquidation and private placement amongst others. The Bureau has also initiated and executed far-reaching reforms reforms in telecommunications, pensions, seaports, debt management, solid minerals, and most recently, the power sector reform that led to the successful unbundling and privatization of the successor companies created out of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN).
