About Children's Heart Unit Fund (CHUF)

Chuf supports children and families who receive treatment at the Children’s Heart Unit based at the Freeman Hospital and the many other hospitals providing care for cardiac patients throughout the North of England. The Heart Unit at the Freeman Hospital treats over four thousand patients each year from all over the UK. It is one of only two children’s heart and lung transplant units and is the only facility capable of providing all the services that might be necessary, from diagnosis to closing holes in the heart or heart transplantation – regardless of whether it is an unborn baby, a child or an adult who gained their condition in childhood. Chuf raises vital funds for large and small pieces of equipment, facilities, aftercare, specialist staffing and research. Our charitable activities however, go far beyond providing medical equipment and personnel. The Charity provides holistic care to by providing services and facilities that allow Heart Heroes to develop their skills and mature as any healthy child normally would as well as practical support for families when they need it most. The Chuf family extends beyond our Heart Heroes and their families. Every supporter, volunteer, funder and corporate partner becomes part of our community.
