CIOL AS is a newly established company based on technology from Norwegian Institute of Bioeconomy Research. The company will deliver environmentally friendly solutions for the protection of wood. The solutions can replace today's pressure-impregnated materials based on heavy metals and have been given the brand name CIOL®. CIOL® is a cost-effective and non-toxic wood modification system, which will be able to replace traditional and unsustainable alternatives. The modification of wood by pressure impregnation from non-fossil sources will significantly lower the climate footprint and improve the properties of the wood. Biocide Directives in the EU are working to be able to find sustainable and environmentally friendly replacements for today's heavy metal-based solutions for the protection of wood. CIOL AS can deliver solutions based on strong technology and knowledge from world-leading researchers in chemical wood modification. CIOL AS can establish a unique market position in that the production process can be integrated into existing facilities. The company has already met strong interest from the industry. The trademark covers all relevant classes, fields and territories. For the end user, the benefits of the products will be little or no need for maintenance and an aesthetically pleasing appearance. CIOL AS will deliver solutions to manufacturers of impregnated wood products through retrofitting and adaptation to existing plants, and in addition deliver adapted CIOL® concentrate.
