About Daniel Calazans Foundation

The Daniel Calazans Foundation is on a mission to raise awareness of the intertwined connection between substance abuse, mental health, and conditions that mimic symptoms of psychiatric illnesses. DCF educates communities and corporations on navigating the mental health and prescription medication crisis in the United States. We also advocate for more robust regulations for psychotropic medications, rehab clinics, and funding for mental health and substance abuse of licit drugs. The Daniel Calazans Foundation provides awards and grants to fellows and investigators to advance improved therapies targeting the development of early diagnostics and treatments for treating substance abuse and the often associated mental deregulation issues. Daniel had a passion for the ocean. He started swimming before walking and later became an avid sailor, swimmer, and surfer. We decided to use a wave as a symbol of the Daniel Calazans Foundation. Riding the wave is part of a larger behavioral psychotherapy model called Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). Just as the waves in an ocean change, so do your emotions. Like waves, your feelings might be calm and peaceful one moment and then tense and unpredictable in another.
