About Equity in Graduate Education Consortium
Although more and more faculty and departments express commitments to equity and diversity, and want to contribute to cultural change, they often do not have capacity (i.e., knowledge, skill, support) to advance these goals in practical ways. Systemic and cultural change are never simple, but they are feasible with evidence, tools, self-study, strategy, and supportive colleagues. Through a community-driven model linking institutional change and faculty development, the Equity in Graduate Education Consortium creates a path to normalizing practices that more equitably select and serve talented students from the country’s emerging majority. Admissions, recruitment, and mentoring are three core areas of practice with bearing on access and wellbeing of minoritized students. EGE is a are a research-practice partnership that advances equity through four activities: -We conduct and translate research to make the social science of equity accessible. -We offer high quality professional development toward both individual and organizational learning. -We build capacity among faculty and administrators for equitable policy and practice. -We develop community, leadership, and infrastructure for systemic change.
