About FACE: Fashion Academics Creating Equality

FACE is co-founded by Sharon Lloyd, Course Director, Southampton Solent; Pascal Matthias, Senior Teaching Fellow at the Winchester School of Art and Andrew Ibi, Course Leader, Liverpool John Mores University. Formed in 2020 to challenge the lack of Black and Brown academics in the system, which directly impacts the experience of all young creatives but especially Black and Brown students, FACE demands acknowledgement for the contribution of Black culture and creativity, to history, society and to fashion. FACE comprises over 70 members nationwide from Institutions including, Edinburgh, Northumbria. Leeds, Manchester, Liverpool John Moores, Ulster, Nottingham, Derby, Cardiff, Kingston, CSM, London College of Fashion, Royal College of Art, Chelsea, Southampton, Brighton, and Falmouth. FACE is partnered with CHEAD, Graduate Fashion Forum, British Fashion Council Colleges, British Beauty Council, i-D, SHOW Studio and Fashion Minority Alliance. Campaigns/initiatives include Annual FACE Excellence Award at Graduate Fashion Week form June 2021 See My FACE Campaign and Report challenging NSS to include race aware and race equality questions within its survey January 2022 and forthcoming FACE summit, hosted by CSM October 2022.
