About Ferments du Futur
Fermented foods offer exceptional potential for innovation to support transitions towards safer, healthier and more sustainable food. Piloted by INRAE and ANIA within the framework of France 2030, the “Ferments of the Future” Grand Challenge aims to accelerate research and innovation in the field of ferments and fermented foods. Launched in late 2022, this highly strategic programme is designed to design and build an infrastructure to meet the challenges of the agroecological transition and food sovereignty. We hope to trengthen the economic leadership of the French and European agrifood industry in a sector that garners focuses massive international investment. A public-private partnership relying on 42 membres to accelerate innovation : • 6 research and education organisations • 28 companies including 12 startups, 7 SMEs and mid-sized, 9 large groups • 7 trade unions, inter-professional organisations, technical institutes and competitive clusters Important capabilities : • 10-year programme • 48,3 millions euros of public funding to be matched 1:1 by private sector • 1.5 M€ of annual funding for research projects towards public organisations • 7 INRAE research unit in collaboration with universities • 1 innovation platform in Paris-Saclay with cutting edge facilities to accelerate the screening of microorganisms and develop new fermentation processes involving microbial ecosystems
