About Georgia's Rural Center

Georgia’s Rural Center (The Center for Rural Prosperity and Innovation) is dedicated to revitalizing rural Georgia. Georgia is known as one of the best states in the nation for business development, but a lack of focus on the development of rural Georgia’s communities and economy has allowed the challenges of rural living to persist. In order to rediscover rural Georgia, the center will conduct research and create projects to improve conditions, answer needs, address issues, and solve problems specific to rural Georgia. In addition, policy will be analyzed that impacts rural living including economic growth incentives, education, unemployment, infrastructure, health care access, and population studies. Outcome-based, measurable impact in rural communities is at the forefront of the efforts led by the center. In May 2018, HB 951 was passed, which formalized the center. As of July 1, 2018, Georgia’s Rural Center has served as the core for information and research concentrated on rediscovering rural Georgia. During the 2025 Georgia Legislative Session, HB 495 was passed to move Georgia's Rural Center to the Georgia Department of Agriculture. Today, the Center continues to serve its core mission of supporting rural communities through various projects. The center is housed in Tifton, Georgia.
