About Give Black Alliance
Give Black® Alliance is a nonprofit that focuses on the power of Black philanthropy and the assets of the Black community. Through creating a strong alliance between funders, Black communities and philanthropists, and providing tools and resources to help individuals, foundations, and other giving organizations make informed grant-making decisions, we are enhancing philanthropy’s ability to address the needs of Black communities. We aim to shift the narrative in philanthropy from a pervasive and damaging focus on deficits within the Black community to shining a light on the considerable potential and financial leverage to increase the assets in communities with the power of Black philanthropy. Our theory of change rests on three tenets – our ability to inform, reform and transform philanthropy. INFORM - Giving Black® means educating the philanthropic community about issues that affect Black lives and the needs of Black children, families, and communities. REFORM - Giving Black® means developing strategies to reshape the current relationship between philanthropy and Blacks and develop new connections to strengthen the power of Black philanthropy. TRANSFORM - Giving Black® means creating tools, programs, and products to drive change through donors and institutions, and to facilitate and support communication between and among philanthropists, charities, service providers, and communities. Give Black® Alliance’s efforts will create a more inclusive philanthropic community with keener insights into our communities, priorities, and a new perspective on the power of Black philanthropy.
