Golden Manor Jewish Senior Services (210) 302-6946 Background The Golden Manor Jewish Home for the Aged nursing facility was sold in May 2008 after serving San Antonio’s Jewish and general communities on a non-profit, non-sectarian basis for over 40 years, offering superior custodial and skilled care within a Jewish environment. In addition to paid staff, numerous members of the community ably volunteered their time and services to the home over the years. As with many other non-profit nursing facilities and hospitals throughout the country, the utility and cost of the facilities to the Jewish community could not be sustained. The reasons included a changing nature of the nursing facility industry, access to capital, professional management, inherently high expectations and costs, and a highly competitive proprietary environment. In San Antonio’s case, the size of the Jewish Community was not large enough to require more than a small percentage of the existing beds. Because of negative operating income and insufficient reserves over many years, we sold the facility. Since the sale, Golden Manor Jewish Senior Services has expanded operations to include all local Jewish seniors, instead of just those living within the walls of one nursing home, by offering a variety of services designed to keep Jewish seniors connected to the larger Jewish community, and by providing certain other types of assistance and care. Although we no longer have a facility that provides skilled nursing or assisted living care, we help families find suitable living arrangements when needed. Mission The mission of Golden Manor Jewish Senior Services is to address the needs and enrich the quality of life for Jewish Seniors in the San Antonio area.
