About Humanist Meditation

Welcome to Humanist Meditation! If you are interested in an evidence-based introduction into meditation, or if you are already an experienced practitioner and looking for a refresher, and possibly some new ideas and tips, from a Humanist’s point of view, you’ve come to the right place. The focus here is on mindfulness meditation techniques of varying types, with lecture portions emphasizing background and tips to overcome hindrances, guided meditations, and open discussion and sharing of experiences and knowledge. From a Humanist perspective, meditation techniques are shown to bring about more fulfillment in life while cultivating an attitude that improves the practitioner’s interaction with all other people. In the tagline “Equanimity for Humanity”, the thought is that the more people that regularly practice meditation, the more peaceful and secure the entire world will be, an obvious long goal of Humanism. In this context, equanimity is defined as mental calmness, composure, and presence of mind, especially in difficult situations. Further, equanimity means accepting negative things that invariably happen in life without judgment or adding suffering by railing against it but finding positive action to counter the negative wherever possible. It is, therefore, the goal of Humanist Meditation to teach as many people as possible the joy of meditation and all the benefits that come with it. Our studio is located in Tempe, Arizona.
