About I Am SHE

I Am SHE is a registered non-profit organisation registered under the Department of Social Development of South Africa. I Am SHE is based in the city of Pretoria. I Am SHE’s prime motto is to provide resources that will help keep girls in school in marginalised communities. In 2018 three sisters of dynamic and like-minded got together to establish an organisation that prioritized young girls from different disadvantaged backgrounds in order to help them stay in school during their periods. This organisation was established to be a movement for young girls by women and true to this spirit the organisation was named I Am SHE (IAS). Considering their childhood years and teen years the founders grew up in tough conditions where resources to manage their menstruations were not prioritised. With an association to keeping girls in school, the founders were cognizant of the plethora of problems plaguing mostly disadvantaged communities across South Africa. Consequently, the organisation’s focus was not kept limited to a specific geographical location or single issue that forces girls stay out of school. The activities undertaken by IAS range from capacity building programs to service delivery, with focus remaining on disadvantaged and marginalised communities. IAS has been working within these communities with different organisations that are able to shelter and help members of the community with different needs.
