About In the Cut LA

In the Cut was founded by screenwriter, Rae Benjamin. Rae decided to transition into screenwriting after years of working as a graphic designer. She was frustrated with the absence of transparency about how the entertainment industry works and realized that many other similarly lacked basic information. Most jobs are unlisted, training is limited, and people don’t know where to begin. Even worse, misinformation is spread at an alarming rate. People easily take advantage of those with limited knowledge by charging exorbitant fees for useless and unhelpful seminars and lessons. For the Black community and other groups who have been historically shut out by traditional Hollywood “gatekeepers,” it can be even more difficult to build a network and learn vital information. Rae created In the Cut to help bridge the knowledge gap and spread information. Through our team’s research, experience, and network, we have created a space where creatives can learn from real, currently working, industry professionals and receive actionable, thoughtful advice on how to advance their careers. Enough BS. Enough secrecy and misinformation. In the Cut produces honest, unfiltered events designed to spread knowledge and increase access to the entertainment industry for black creatives and other marginalized communities. Our intimate online and live events will allow you the opportunity to learn from real, working, industry professionals. We carefully curate workshops that feature top talent from current, critically-acclaimed television shows and films. Our past events have featured writers, directors, producers and support staff from hit TV shows like: - Power (Starz) - Grey’s Anatomy (ABC) - Snowfall (FX) - Scandal (ABC) - Good Trouble (Freeform) - The Witcher (Netflix) - The Chi (Showtime) - Hawkeye (Marvel/Disney+)
