About Independent Electrical Contractors (IEC) - Southern New Mexico

Southern New Mexico Independent Electrical Contractors, Inc. is a merit shop, indentured program for electrical & systems contractors and has been offering training of their apprentices for over 28 years as a 4-year apprenticeship and training program. We are an equal opportunity trade school with our membership composed of electrical contractors throughout the Southern New Mexico region. SNMIEC is one of over 50 chapters’ nationwide providing training and education of the nationally accredited curriculum backed by New Mexico Workforce Solutions for education and funding. Our contractor members, although competitors in the workforce, unite under the roof of the SNMIEC training center in order to build a better workforce for the electrical trade. Apprenticeship is a unique opportunity offering paid on the job training along with routine classroom instruction in order to prepare apprentices for skilled, high paying jobs upon completion. This opportunity is like no other in the Southern New Mexico region. This is a community of educators (in both the field and classroom), business owners, and electrical journeyman providing skilled training for residential, commercial and industrial specialties along with providing jobs to help the community.
