I spent the first 15 years of my career as a corporate tax accountant and financial systems analyst before I decided to take the entrepreneurial plunge. I decided to build a business around my passion for the game of golf. After doing research and speaking with people in the industry I decided to develop a business around the organization and management of corporate and charitable golf outings. I thought with my education and professional background I would be able to make the business a success in a short period of time. I quickly realized that I had ignored a major component for success. I had no hands on experience with the sales and marketing process. The lack of experience led to bad decisions when investing time and resources in sales and marketing programs that failed. Needless to say the business did not succeed. Even though I was in dire financial straits I did not want to go back to a career as a tax accountant or financial analyst. I was determined to learn to sell something. I eventually found a position as an inside sales representative with a large bank which was headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pa. After six months of trial and error I earned the sales representative of the month award. That small amount of success provided me with enough confidence to earn the sales representative of the quarter award. The momentum and confidence led to successive sales representative of the year awards. It has taken me over 20 years to find the guts to start J.M.J. B2B Leads and Links.
